Tumbleweeds Lends a Helping Hand to Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc.

On Wednesday, July 14th, Debbie Zeida hosted a free quilt class at Tumbleweeds in West Barnstable, MA. Students learned how to stablize sports apparel and make quilts out of them.  Debbie has made a number of generous donations to Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc., and she was generous to volunteer her time to teach this class.

Wrapped Up in Sports donated T-shirts, fabric and batting, and Tumbleweeds was kind to also donate fabric and space for the class!

About 10 quilts representing the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics will be donated to Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc. and will be included in upcoming donations to Room to Grow, Children's Hospital Boston and Horizons for Homeless Children.  Thank you Debbie!!

Kate McCullough brought a few donated quilts to the class for inspiration
and also participated.

Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc. Donates Autographed Wall Hangings to Help Benefit the Jimmy Fund

JIMMY FUND CLINIC PATIENTS SIGN THE PESKY POLE –
ON A QUILT THAT IS!
Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc. to Donate Red Sox Inspired Quilt to the Jimmy Fund
Boston, MA - Volunteers from Wrapped Up In Sports, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to making, collecting, and donating professional sports team-inspired quilts for children in medical, social and mental-health need, made a special trip to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund Clinic with a special keepsake in hand. A volunteer quilter hand-made a Red Sox inspired wall hanging quilt that was autographed by members of the 2010 Boston Red Sox. The wall hanging, which has a replica of Fenway Park and boththe Pesky and Fisk Foul Pole will be put up for auction on eBay during the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon’s Extra Innings Auction to take place at the end of July.

The wall hanging did not seem complete with nearly blank Pesky and Fisk Poles, soWrapped Up in Sports, Inc. President and Founder, Kate McCullough, decided to have patients and their parents from the Jimmy Fund Clinic sign their names and inspirational messages on the yellow fabric adjacent to the signatures of fan favorites like Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, and more. “It was the perfect touch to make this wall hanging truly special.”, says Kate McCullough.

Donating this wall hanging to the Jimmy Fund to auction has special meaning for those involved in Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc. During the summer of 2008, Kate McCullough tuned into the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon and was so inspired by the stories that the Jimmy Fund clinic patients told not just of their treatment, but also of the great activities Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides for them to take their mind off of their disease. McCullough could see that when talking about their trips to Ft. Myers for Spring Training or having visits with professional athletes, their eyes widened, the tone of their voices perked up, and they smiled from ear to ear. This inspired Kate to start Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc. so that kids all over New England could feel connected to their beloved sports teams and feel comforted by the love put into these hand-made team-inspired quilts. "We feel it is necessary to give back to the cause that inspired the start of our organization.”, says McCullough, “The Jimmy Fund Clinic provides smiles and hope for kids with cancer and we are grateful for the opportunity to help keep that spirit going!"

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of this quilt will be donated to the Patient Activities Fund in the Jimmy Fund Clinic to help create positive experiences for pediatric patients.

Lisa Scherber, Patient Activities Coordinator in the Jimmy Fund Clinic says, “The funds that will be raised with this project will be used for a different type of medicine. The activities and events that happen with these funds will help these kids to get to their next treatment, by making them feel safe and happy.” You can bid on this one-of-a-kind Red Sox team autographed wall hanging along with an autographed New England Patriots wall hanging on eBay in July.

Wrapped Up in Sports, Inc. thanks the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots for their participation in this project. To learn more, please visit www.wrappedupinsports.org or contact Kate McCullough at (857) 891-1612 or kate@wrappedupinsports.org.
